How Long Should a Hype Reel Be?

Short answer: 60 to 90 seconds for most events. Less for an entrance.

A hype reel isn't a documentary. It builds energy, then gets out of the way. Once the room is fired up, every extra second lets the air out.

How long for what

  • Entrance video: 30 to 60 seconds. It plays while someone walks in and ends when they arrive.

  • Event opener: 60 to 90 seconds. Set the tone, tease what's coming, hand the room to the host.

  • Sports or MVP reel: 60 to 120 seconds. The best plays, not every game.

  • Company or team intro: about 90 seconds, with one clear point.

How to cut it down

Open with your best moment, not your first one. Cut anything that needs explaining. If you're debating a clip, cut it.

Pick the music first. A track with a clear build and a big hit will tell you where the video peaks and where it ends.

One last test

Watch it on a big screen, with the sound up, like your guests will. Then cut another 10 seconds.
